You can turn it off and only use wifi etc.

I assume its using even when not active maybe due to certain apps and updates (if you have them) push notifications etc.

My mobile data usage is only 16.0mb sent and 48.3mb received because I use the wifi generally and it only uses mobile data when I'm out of range if a wifi connection.

Check what apps and notifications you have that are using data. Or do you have email set up on your iPhone that sends you notifications when you get a new email etc

You can turn cellular data off. My phone was "connecting" every five minutes for one minute using all of my credit. So I turned it off. I only use wifi at home. If I really need to go online while out I turn it on do what I have to then turn it off. I have been using a cap thing for the last month and its been better. It's those set credit things that get drained.

Download an app called dataman. It tells you how much data you've used on your own wifi v's cellular. And you can set it up to alert you if you go near your cap.

My phone did this too... Oneday I went to bed and had used like no data. When I woke up, I had used 4gb. While sleeping. All apps off. Wtf?

So I called my provider, eventually they just refunded it but it still kept happening, and using my wifi didn't help... It never would use wifi even when it said it was connected. It would use my data instead.

So I switched off everything, wifi and data and just used it as a phone, no net.

After a lot of googling, many others had similar issues but nobody could find a way. DP googled too and decided to back up all of my stuff on his laptop, then reset the entire phone. This basically meant everything was deleted.

For some reason that totally worked.

So it might be worth trying that.
