Default Have you ever cut off a family member?

And if you have, why? And how did other family members react?

Ive had minimal contact with my MIL for a while now but after another abusive phone call in which she threatened to kill herself if we didnt do what she wanted ( a minor favor which we offered to do the next day) ive decided after years of this type of abusive behaviour and for my own emotional health that i dont want anything to do with her.

    Its my only option unfortunately.

I haven't spoken or seen any of my family since my daughter was 2 days old. It's a long long long story that would take an hot or so to write but it's the best decision I have ever made and I have no regrets what so ever. What my mum especially put me through .... I will never forgive ,ever!

Sometimes we're better off without "family" there I honestly Believe that it true in my case anyway

Being emotionally toyed with takes its toll and there's only so much a person can take before they've had enough. To me t doesn't matter If your family or not f their willing to be like that I'm willing to cut them out of my life, simple.

I haven't personally, but I can see how sometimes it would be necessary.

    I'm so sorry

I cut off one set of grandparents.

They were horrible to me, my mum, sister and dad.

After he said some very horrible things about me and my family I decided to cut him out as did my sister. My nana would always cry and say we have ruined our lives and her life and we are so ungrateful ect.

I am better off without them and without their comments in my life.

Family shouldn't bring you down, they should raise you up.

I have. I didn't care too much how other family members took it, tbh. I assumed if they were happy to sit back and let family members abuse and belittle me they can go too.

However, I've never classed blood as ample reason to call someone family, so might be easier for me than others.
