Hi Hummingbird! Yes your thyroid can be fully functioning and have antithyroid antibodies because I bloody have it I don't have any symptoms that I am aware of to be honest. Yeah just a blood test will test for ATA's that will tell you. My antithyroid antibodies are 73 but as you can see some people can have up into their thousands. I've been trying to get pregnant what feels like forever with no luck and a failed ivf cycle. I also have a low AMH as a result of the ATA's

Thanks so much for that i will definately look into it. Does anti thyroid antibodies cause you to not be able to get pregnant? Or if you do get pregnant, can it cause miscarriages?

Hi Hummingbird. I think it depends on who you talk to! Many people have many different opinions

The advice I have been given (in my case where thyroid is working ok but antibodies are present) I was told I should have no trouble getting pregnant (although am now in month 8 TTC) but might have trouble staying pregnant as the antibodies attack the growing embryo. According to my naturopath though she has seen women with high antibodies like mine who have had no troubles then women with lower antibodies than mine who have suffered miscarriages or have difficulty conceiving so I guess everyone is different....

Well hummingbird, I have been trying for over 2 years to get pregnant and I did after 4 months but I was losing it as I found out...I was 6 weeks. We continued trying and I haven't been able to since so started IVF, and my first round failed. I also have a low AMH, Anti-thyroid antibodies (73) and Antinuclear antibodies speckled 1:640. I believe these antibodies have a lot to do with not getting pregnant...

Hi Schloz I got my AMH results today, they are 15.0. I am guessing that is ok as the GP didn't want to see me?

Yup Laurs, 15 is the norm for our age group! that means IVF is more successful in regards to the amount of eggs being able to be collected. So yeah i'd be stoked with that kind of result for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ohhh Laurs so this IVF cycle failed then? I'm really sorry to hear that! I can't even imagine how hard that must be doing it 8 times and it still not work. I found the first time terribly emotional and training! So every time you have IVF do you have to use progesterone supps and all of that? How do you cope with it not working??

Hi Shloz, no I think I have confused you!! I haven't gone down the IVF road yet, just 8 cycles TTC not 8 cycles of IVF thankfully

Ahhhhhh ok Laurs....well I tried naturally for 2 years and didn't get pregnant. Natural is not an option for me with these antithyroid antibodies as my egg is just getting destroyed and not attaching to my lining so im never getting pregnant. That's why I am seeing a fertility specialist, rheumatologist and endocrinologist. Don't try naturally for too long if you can help it if it isn't working. don't wait 2 yrs like I did...
