    Default Stretch & sweep

I'm currently 39+4 and had S&S done this afternoon as I've been having pain and tightenings for 1.5 weeks.

Midwife said I was 2cm dilated when it was performed.

Just curious about people's experiences with S&S?

i only ever had them when i was post 40 weeks, and to be honest they didn't do anything to get labour started for me. But i'm probably unusual - i always have overdue babies, and i think thats just me - i gestate for a long time (last baby eventually came at 42w2d despite several stretches and sweeps!)!!

I had one at 37w5d due to lack of movement, I had a big show and mild regular contractions for about 12 hours post it then was induced. It got my mind ready for labour but unfortunately didn't do enough to bring it on.

Can you request for a stretch an sweep? Or do you only get them if there is a medical reason?

I met with my doctor today with the intention of asking for it to be done but he offered it first. I guess depending on your current status determines if they would do it or not.

I hope I'm like a friend of mine, after hers her waters broke 8 hours later.

I was told GP can do them from 39 but midwife can do from 38.
My bub was lazy and would go for days without feeling movement....I think they got sick of me turning up asking if all was ok. So i guess mine was a medical reason

Yes you can, often they are offered as well.

My s&s worked within a couple of days op. I lost my mucus plug and had irregular contractions, and then a baby!

    I had mine at 39+5 with DD2 and 39 weeks with DD3

    Good luck

I had about 10 for my DS (he was very late and my mum is a midwife) and they did nothing for me! My mum also told me how to do it so I could do it myself at home...

I had one at 40+3. Wasn't dilated. Two days later, I woke at 4am with contractions, and had my bub around 11pm
