Another game of thrones fan here. If you are going to be named after a character Arya Stark is a pretty awesome one!

I don't think it's weird at all. In fact I think Aria/Arya is a very trendy name at the moment. That's not to say I don't like it. I just prefer names that don't identify the year you were born.

Really? No! I'm a big GOT fan and I've always heard it said Aria

Not to derail the thread but I've always wondered if the show got the pronunciation truly right because in the books - Arya goes by Arry when she's heading North with Yoren. So I've been reading it with the same inflection to "Arya" that you would apply to saying "Arry" - like Harry without the H.

Either way - I do love the name but as a PP has said - tv show names define the "generation" a bit - even if you didn't get it off the tv show!

I saw it and thought it must be a play on the name Aria (which I know from Pretty little liars).

Don't worry - I'm about to get on the bandwagon and watch GOT (I got pulled in after a discussion on another thread - so I've ordered them on Quickflix).

I named my Dd Aria after Arya Stark BUT spelt it the usual way as Arya is actually pronounced Are-Ya as its an Indian name and I didnt wanr to have a cool name that is actually a mispronounciation. Either way, she is Aria after that character and we love it...as does.everyone we come across.

It also means noble and truthful. It's a great name!! But that's Arya, not Aria (which I don't like).

I am hoping that this demonstrates that changing the spelling of the name, often means you are changing the name, and the meaning of it, entirely.

Not important to everyone but it is to me.

I love Arya and it's on my baby name list too! As is Layla & Ava. If we decide to use it we'll keep the spelling as Arya.
