Default Cold sore- 7 month old

DD looks like she has a cold sore! It's a little red bump on her lip. I know coldsores are dangerous if they appear on the eyelids. Has anyone had any experience dealing with these in a baby? Can I use a cold sore cream? She is BF, I read that I should offer extra feeds, but another friend has me worried I will get them on my nipples!

I'd take her to the doctor if you suspect it is a cold sore. Not something you want to take chances with, the herpes virus can be dangerous for babies.

I agree, you definitely need to go to a doctor to be sure.

But to reassure you a bit - I took mine to the GP when she had a bump on her lip. My GP told me that when babies first get cold sores, it's usually a really bad episode and you'll know about it. Unless she has more than one red bump, it's probably not cold sores.

But you should take her to a doctor to confirm.

My ds2 had herpes around his eye and in his mouth and down his throat only a few weeks back. He spent 3 nights in hospital with iv antibiotics and antiviral medication. Get it checked out because at 7 months old your child isn't immunized against the herpes virus.
