Interesting...I think the way it's used is generally less "self-deprecating" than "other-deprecating" (not a word, I know, but perhaps you take my meaning.)

I think the general use of bogan was often quite a masculine concept (mullets, V8s, beer etc etc) but it's expanded over time. I do think the BubHub Bogan ("Bubogan?") seems a more fluid and entertaining concept.

I call dp a bogan when he listens to AD/DC. When he moved in I refused to let him put up his ACDC print up inside because I didn't want to be known of living in a brogan house .

I've come to the conclusion that I'm a bogan by BH's standards... I wear thongs with trackies, uggies outside, own a coffee table and put head bands on my babies.

I think there are different extremes of bogansim...varying from slightly... to don't ever leave the house and please for the love of god don't ever breed!

    Bogans unite in this thread.

I had a coffee table but we had to put it away so DD had space to play.

DD has her ears pierced and I have put a headband on her once or twice.

I like Holdens and I wear thongs with everything......!

This pretty much sums it up for me.

Bogans display a general lack of sophistication in their choices.

I think most of us do, say or own something that would be considered to be 'bogan'.

I don't think people should take too much offence if they are accused of making bogan choices. Chances are the person accusing you of being bogan has a little bogan in them too
