Yeah, but I believe after the brain and spinal cord develop, the baby has basic human rights of its own.

I feel sorry for their potential future son for having such selfish and heartless parents. As cruel as it is, At least their little girl has gone to a better place & does not have to grow up with these awful people as parents.

I guess we all have our own ideas on when abortion is acceptable, and in what circumstances.

To me 'pro-choice' means, letting the mother decide what is right for her and her pregnancy.

Sorry, i did not mean to quote you Lifeinshadesofgrey....i am a techno idiot....my point is in response to the general question raised, not your response....sorry.

What if a young woman...our not so young woman decides that she is not in a position to raise a baby but finds out she is pregnant so she opts for a termination...?

Women in Australia can choose to have a termination for whatever reason...they/we don't need a reason...so the issue of women choosing to terminate based on the sex of the fetus or baby is a bit of a moot point really.

Except that we don't find out the gender until 19-20 weeks, well beyond the point of the option of abortion (?)

In this instance it just seems such a sad throw away nothing choice, as god awful as aborting a baby because it's eyes were blue.

Is this correct? Yes they can up to 12 weeks but after that there has to be a medical reason. Is gender disappointment a medical reason?

As someone who had to go through 7 years of IVF hell to create my family I don't understand this at all. I find it abhorrent. But I don't understand gender disappointment. I would accept my kids however they turned out given what I went through to conceive them.

I really find this a sick symptom of selfish people. There are other options. Use them.

I felt physically sick and incredibly angry reading the article over breakfast. Some people really disgust me. I don't think ending a life at 19 weeks gestation because it is the 'wrong' gender is any better than smothering your newborn because you were after the other sex. After looking into late term abortion, it is not something I could ever condone except for medical reasons.
