    Default Applying for Uni

Can anyone give me a summary of how the best way to apply for Uni in Qld?

I've had a quick read over QCATs site and can't seem to decipher how the timing for mid year intake works or how the places available are offered (as in what order are applicants prioritised).

It's been a long time since I've done any studies and I'm just doing some research into my options.

FTR I want to do external study.

There's only one way to apply and that is through QTAC.

The due date for applications is 24th of May.

Offers will be made on the 6th of June.

QTAC will give you a rank which is based on either your OP/HSC score, any tertiary (uni or tafe) study that you've done or you may have done the STAT test or PCA.

Offers are made to the applicants with the highest rank first and then in descending order.

You won't find out your rank until after offers are made.

You can select up to 6 courses to apply for, but you'll only be made one offer.

Maybe a silly question but what if you didn't get an op?

If you have studied at a uni previously, then ring them up and ask for an appointment with their careers counselor. They should be able to estimate what rank they expect you to be assigned (based on either your previous study (with them) or your TE/OP score). Of course this wont account for the STAT test or other things that may be considered, but it gives you a starting point.

My previous study was at QUT and thus I was entitled to a one hour in person consultation with the careers counselor. I was told that other people (not current or previous students) would still be given a half hour phone appointment.

Then you'll need to complete the STAT test and PCA.

Most cities and regional towns will be a tertiary study expo in about June/July/August, so if you go along to that you'll be able to ask the uni's any questions you want and QTAC will be there as well.

    Thank you all so much.

I'm feeling very apprehensive about leaving the workforce and am still in two minds as to what I should do.

    It's a tough decision.

Perhaps spend the year throughly researching your options and preparing the best application you can for 2014 every instead of rushing to meet the may 24 cut off. An extra 6 months won't make that much difference in the long run.
