Wow that's so exciting congratulations!! It so good to hear good stories! I'm not on the adoption journey but it is an option if we aren't successful in a few years time makes me happy to know that there is hope :-) just wondering how long did it take you? Was it a hard process? :-)

Congrats on becoming parents. We have just started the process so it's great to hear positive stories. What state are you in and which agency did you go through?
    Enjoy your little girl.

Congrats! How long was the whole process? And what were the stages you had to go through? (If you don't mind answering)

    Hi Muzzy,

    I can highly recommend it.

The process was thorough but I wouldn't say hard, especially after going through years of IVF which I think was way harder, emotionally and physically.

Essentially it took us just over a year from first phone call enquiry stage in January 2012, info session in march 2012, training in June 2012 and then the remaining part of the year was home visits, writing our life stories for our profile etc.. We were approved December 2012 and received our glorious phone call about our little angel April 2013.

There are of course lots of stories out there about how long the adoption process takes.. I can't speak for the international adoption but local adoption seems to get a lot of unnecessary bad rap and we found the local adoption journey a good experience.

    All the best, Mack's

    Hi Calstar,

    Thank you.

Essentially it took us just over a year from first phone call enquiry stage in January 2012, info session in march 2012, training in June 2012 and then home visits and interviews started around september 2012 once we were allocated our case manager. As part of the process we had to each write our life stories for our profile which took some time. Ours were about twenty pages long each. We were approved December 2012 by a board and received our glorious phone call about our little angel April 2013.

We now have our beautiful daughter home with us and our agency are very supportive post placement which is great.

    All the best, Mack's

    Congratulations!

I was adopted as a baby (many) years ago and it was truly the best thing that ever happened to me. It bugs me when people refer to my biological mother (who I am immensely grateful to for making an incredibly difficult choice for me) my "real mother". Real mothers and fathers are the ones who look after you during the night when you are sick, who hold your hand on your first day at school, who teach you about life and who make you feel loved and important.

Years ago, I found a painted tile in a drawer that my mum probably had for years...it had this little poem on it:

    "Not flesh of my flesh
    Nor bone of my bone
    but still Miraculously my own.

Never forget for a single minute
You did not grow under my heart
    but in it."

Be happy with your little darling.
