    Hi everyone

Just joined the forum today so am very new and wanted to drop in and say hello! I've started to look into the brave new world of egg donation now after several very difficult years of IVF treatments. My eggs were OK when I started and I did have a healthy little baby boy a year ago but he tragically died on the day of his birth from an umbilical cord knot..... Now, given my age and now "not unlimited finances" due to all the previous IVF cycles, the fertility specialists are telling me my best (and last) chance of a baby is with an egg donor. But I am completely overwhelmed about where to start - do I try and find a lovely donor in Australia...? or Greece....? or South Africa.....? Thailand.....? USA......? Spain....? Yeh - will have to put my head down and do some research...... Anyway in meantime I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Your stories give me so much hope and inspiration and keep me going! (I will probably post a hello in the South Africa thread as well, so you may see me pop up there too until I decide what direction I need to take - just a start of my journey. And got to figure out how to create my signature here too.... ) Thanks!
    Catherine

Default Little baby still hanging in there

Hi. People's trips to greece are coming up soon. My fingers are crossed for you. It looked like I had twins but one is not developing ( known as a vanishing twin)
the other bub is now 7 weeks. We saw heartbeat on last ultrasound so things are looking promising. The trip to Embroyoland with dr.Nikos saw def worth it )
i have another ultrasound in 2 weeks so will keep you updated.

for those that are pregnant how long do you continue with prednisolone I'm on 35mg daily and progesterone 3 times daly and estrogen tree times daily plus daily clexane injections. I have read that prednisolone may need to be taken throughout the preg as killer cells can effect fetus at any time? Has anyone else heard this?
    regards kathcraig

    Welcome Catherine (imij),
nice 2 have u join us. I'm so sorry 2 hear u lost yr little one, that must have been incredibly painful. No words or even hugs can ease that. I pray that u will get another chance 2 b the wonderful mummy u hope 2 b.

everyone on this site has a story 2 tell about their incredible journey but what I love is how generous of heart they all r. Ask any questions u like or just get things off yr chest & I know 1 of these beautiful ladies will help.

I started looking at the donor situation myself a few mths ago & it was this forum that helped me make my decision 2 go 2 Greece in September. I decided Greece a. As it appeared 2 b the cheaper & easier road 2 travel. b. add 2 that my husband is Italian & it's a wonderful excuse 2 holiday in Europe at the same time. C. Greece clinics seem 2 b set up 2 accommodate Australian women very well.

good luck & again pls feel free 2 ask any questions u like. Vixjc helped me immensely in the beginning & still is with a lot of my questions.

Kathcraig, I'm sooooo sorry 2 hear 1 of the twins is not doing so well. I will send out prayers & hope 4 u all. Fingers & toes r crossed also. Let us know how u go in 2 wks time & anytime in between. R u physically feeling ok?

    Xx

    Hi

I am new to thread- have been looking at it for a while. I too am considering egg donation at Embryoland. Am finding it hard to let go with my own eggs after many failed IVF cycles. I do not have any children and like everyone here would love to have them. Have had couple of miscarriages.

It is inspiring to hear the stories on this thread. Have never joined any thread before so is all a bit daunting.

    Hi Everyone

Dette I'm still going strong. At the 13 wk ultrasound both babies were growing well and had strong heart beats. I have another scan at 18wks so looking forward to that to confirm everything is good. Nausea has settled down but now am starting to feel quite uncomfortable. You must be getting really excited. It isn't long now.

Welcome Imij everyone on this thread is really happy to share. I was really sad to hear you lost your beautiful baby. You are very brave to keep trying. I am 41 and went for an egg donor at Embryoland with Dr Nikos and he constantly referred to me as young so don't let age get in the way it is a state of mind. Any questions you have about egg donation in Greece or Embryoland I am happy to help. Greece was beautiful and very relaxed.

Kathcraig I was sad to hear you had a vanishing twin but great news that your bub is growing strong with a nice heartbeat. How amazing is it when you see that. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Keeptrying welcome to the thread. we are all here to help and are a great source of information so ask any questions you want. I went to Embryoland with Dr Nikos and can not say enough good things about him. I am now 16wks pregnant with twins after 10 yrs of IVF. If you have questions ask away.

To all the other women who are heading over soon GOOD LUCK!!! Ill be thinking of you all and hoping for a positive outcome. xxoo

Oh Catherine, I cannot even comprehend the heartbreak you must go through, I'm so incredibly sorry you have had this tragedy in your life. You're a very courageous woman to be able to keep going with this awful infertility caper For me the donor experience has been so worth it, and in this most recent cycle, a really positive experience. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have.

Welcome keeptrying I've heard great things about embryoland, hopefully it will give you your lasting bfp. If you have any questions about that part of Athens - I'm quite familiar with it now!

And my lovely Dette - looks like I missed a question earlier, sorry! Serum will email you your results within a week or so of receiving your sample and if you need antibiotics they will send you a detailed program to follow. As for your protocol - they won't actually send that through until about the time the donor starts her cycle. So in the meantime, relax, plan your holiday, keep popping your folate and know that Penny has it all under control

Kathcraig - I was able to stop the prednisolone at 10 weeks - I haven't heard of anyone taking it all the way through. Everything else stopped at 12 weeks. Ok so I might have stopped the pessaries a few days earlier cos I just couldn't bear it anymore - disgusting things! I'm sorry to hear about the vanishing twin but fingers crossed you've got a little fighter on board for the long haul!

Sadly we lost our last twin this week (week nine). The heart beat just stopped. Not sure if this is common with donor eggs. Very disappointed. Dr nikos from embryoland has been very supportive. If we are emotionally and physically strong enough to try again. We will probably head back to Greece later in the year. Good luck to everyone else who is pregnant or soon to be xx

    Dear Kathcraig,

So sad to read your update. I've no words but the bigest virtual hug I can give you. Hugs hugs

Sorry Dette I have not posted here for alittle while. I'm still on the donor path for September this year.
We did our last cycle threw all we could at it, and were very surprised to get a BFP with no if or buts. We are at the end of our IVF journey no matter the outcome of this cycle. So we are still getting our paper work completed and sorted. We are looking at donor embryos now in either USA or Geeece.
Our clinic at Monash have said its unethical of us to peruse this while pregnant. I just said well of course we hope for the best. But after all the looses we have had, let's get everything ready.
First scan is on 24 th July ??? Only time will tell.

Vixjc glad to hear your going along well.

Catherine, I can not begin comprehend the road that you have traveled. I admire your courage and bravery.

Thank you to you wonderful ladies for sharing your journeys both heart breaking and so joyous. You have given me and DH a light in a time of terrible darkness.

    hugs and baby dust
