We had our first appointment at the new CBD location (I think it just opened a month ago or so). My hubby works in the city and its very close to our house too. I'm not sure how much will be done there cos its just an office. I suspect I will be heading to Richmond Epworth for scans etc. But it easier for my hubby to come to the appointment right after work being in the city. Getting to Richmond on public transport from the inner city for me is a bit of a pain (have to take a tram, train, then walk 5-10 mins), driving takes about the same time as there is always so much traffic even tho its only one suburb over!
So hopefully I go to the city for all the 'talking' type appointments

Good luck. Hopefully the clinic where you have scans and bloods will b close enough for you cos you will need to come for all the early morning appointments. I did 7.30am , 7.45am scans and bloods before work. Hubby didnt have to do much in our case even despite the fact that we were in IVF because of MFI

If so hubby has be asked to do that and he'll probably go on Monday as we've been told it can take up to 8 weeks for the results to be processed. We weren't told how much it costs just that it might be expensive....
The sperm test we nearly did for $800 was just to test quality (a basic way of explaining it I can't remember the name of it now) sounds like your hubby is being tested for something else. Good luck x

Do u mean just the sperm analysis where they do counts, motility, morphology etc? Because he's done one of them already and it was about $250 then $60 back on Medicare. He's doing another one in 2.5 weeks along with some hormone tests. Just looking for a reason why his counts might be low. He's sperm is good in all other aspects.

Is it a requirement to come in that early or is that more of a convenience thing for working ladies? I'm not working so I'm free any time of the day for appointments...

Clayton had to have all blood tests/ scans done before 10am. By the way, our only reason for IVF was low sperm count too. We only had a basic sperm test done, nothing else.

So your doctor didn't look to see why they were low? Even a blood rest to check hormones? What was his count? Hubby had 7 million per ml last test.

Cant recall exact number, but I remember thinking it was a half of what is was meant to be in a normal sperm. So it was probably around 10 mln per ml or something. I think my hubby did have a basic blood test. It was a while back ago , to be honest. What happen was that my gyno ( who was just gyno and infertility spesialist not ivf) didnt think his count was the reason for the invertility, so we took our time doing all sort of investigations on me which didnt find anything.... Then we went to ivf specialist who got my hubby to repeat sperm test and when the number was low again ivf FS said to go for ICSI with no further tests.

I was always under impression that there is not much can be done to improve sperm count , so Im not sure there was a point for us of doing any further tests I guess... May be if we had any problems during IVF with fertilisation or something like that then I would have requested futher testing. But we didnt, so Im glad we didnt waste our time You FS surely has some reasons for doing further investigation, I think every case is different

Yes I'm not sure really why they've been ordered. I think he's just very thorough (he's a professor and one of the head Monash IVF doctors).

He said with the genetic test less than 3% come back with anything wrong there. Then with the hormones he said that was just to check and if there is a problem there are medications. He said usually there is no known reason why counts are low, they just are. He's a healthy guy and all other aspects of his sperm were good. I suspect the doc is just covering his bases, also my hubby has said he was keen to check everything so that's probably why.

Hubby did the blood tests yesterday. It's $472 but only $144 after Medicare.

You've obviously got to do what feels right for you and your husband and if your hubby feels like he wants to know more - that's great. Sometimes I feel though that some tests are a bit unnecessary because at the end of the day they won't change much. Like me doing laparoscopy - that was absolutely pointless. At the end of the day we would have still ended up at ivf clinic whether something was found or not (and nothing was found so I suffered for no reason lol) But that's just me
