At least it's only $5 here and there. Did you have to pay a resource fee at the start of the year? My daughter's school does this so we pay a few hundred up front which covers most things for the year.
I paid some ' voluntary contribution' on top of the book list not sure there was a resource fee?

I hope my kids school isn't like this! I'd be asking for answers if they did. We had a booklist fee (we never saw the booklist it went straight to the class) and a resource fee for kindy which totalled almost $400 I think!

As a teacher I would like to just add that pencils can go very quickly. That and glu sticks. Especially if the child is an avid sharpener. They get lost, borrowed (even though they aren't meant to) and sharpened down. So a packet of pencils may not last more than a term. It does seem a little quicker than usual, but I have had to send notes home for supplies before the first term is out before.

My kids are at a public school and i'm constantly forking out money for everything. They are forever having pizza days, days where they have an in school type fete set up so the kids need money to participate in all activites, excursions, expected to be dressed in a costume or particular colour one day which we don't have and have to buy, reading diaries, etc.. The list just goes on really.
I don't carry cash very often either so it's usually a pita to transfer money into the right account, go to an atm to withdraw it, go and buy something to break the note and get correct change.
The kids school doesn't even have eftpos either which seems rather outdated.
