It always used to amuse me when he would go on and on at my sister about what we call things, because he had grown up calling it something else

    Eg- what we call primas:

(And not just that brand, any type of juice in a box)
He would bang on and on about them NOT being called Prima's, because that was the brand- they were known to him as popper's. This is what I grew up calling a popper:

And of course, we would argue that we call things by brand names all the time- Thermos, Esky etc.

So tell me- what do you find hard to believe that other people think is a perfectly common word or noun?
I grew up in NSW. We call what you call primas poppers because we used to blow them up when finished and "pop" them.

Seriously think I'm too old as I don't even remember pop tops being available when I grew up.

I'm a kiwi so everyone gets a laugh whenever I speak. I can't even say 'this' or 'fridge' let alone jandals, chilly bin, vivid, hot dog, duvet or twink without someone having a dig

I get ribbed for my pronunciation of Subaru - soo-BAR-oo vs soob-er-roo.

I'm from NSW originally and we used to call them fruitboxes, not poppers.

DH can't cope with the fact that everyone else calls them milkbars, not Delis. A deli is where you get meat products. Lol. Darn Perthies!

    Yep - flip flops.

And I always say sofa instead of couch. I hadn't heard 'lounge' until I moved here either. Lounge is the room, not the sofa!
