Default Bit of a vent & I apologise in advance.

    AGGGGHHHRRRRRRR..

The croup monster is back.. A bit earlier this year but its back.

pharmacist said kids under 6 can't have cough syrup anymore?! Did you know that?

Thankfully GP agreed to see us this arvo because There's no more cough syrup in the house & when the dose wears off shell be back to non stop coughing wheezing crying poor thing.

& I know there are children/parents worse off out there & I try to remind myself of that but DD just can't catch a break.

ENT clinic informed us the waiting list is YEARS long! Going to find a remote hospital & fly there or pay for her procedures up front (she has chronic glue ear, reoccurring sinus infections, hay fever & reoccurring croup)

She's not on our health insurance but I am calling them today to add her but still 12mnth wait to claim for her which works out to be a little cheaper then paying upfront for the procedures so I am thinking well skip the waiting period & just pay. She needs it done yesterday.

I HATE that she is on antibiotics all the time, she can't seem to fight infections off. She is only 3 but where's the immunity?

Last year she had croup 5 times, first time took 2 courses of antibiotics to fight off, year before she had it 3 times.

She has a vaporiser & mum suggested liquid ventalin (she doesnt have asthma)

& me.. I work 2 jobs and run my own business & all I want to do is be there for her but self employed = no work = no $.

She got her first Pead app this week.. $340!! Ouch

We need a lotto win. Thanks.

    Hi!
    We are in Newy.
We found Kelvin Kong to be great with our daughter. It did cost, but it was worth it. We have full PHI but that only covered the hospital. Still had to pay for gap for surgery, appt fees and anaethesist. It was probably around $2000 + hospital stay. It was getting so unsafe that our child couldn't hear us.
His rooms are up at the medical suites near the private hospital.
We had the appt one day and were booked into have the surgery 2 working days later. And yes, I've heard that the public waiting list is huge.

Have you used Redipred for her croup before? I've got two kids who get it. And so far this year it's not fun.

Oh no hopefully the doctor can help. I hadn't heard that Children under 6 couldn't have cough medicine? I might look at that.

I hope things pick up for you soon and illness goes away for your little one.

There is one cough syrup that you can still give to kids 0-6. It's a natural expectorant called Prospan.

It helps break up the mucous so they have more success getting it up out if their lungs so it doesn't actually suppress the cough just aides in them fighting the cause of it.

THANKS LITTLE TED!!! That sounds great! Are you saying you only had hospital cover? We are with NIB so grommets/agnoids would be covered under that. Did you have to pay excess on top?

By my calc 12mnth premiums + hospital excess = $1500

    Procedure alone = $2000

Someone sudgested to pay nib premiums upfront so I can claim straight away but am yet to call to see if that's an option.

Hi missie mack yes she gets frequent upper respiratory tract infections and steroids for the croup.

Tbh I don't find that the steroids help at all.
