Default Intercountry adoption process in SA

    Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the intercountry adoption process as it works in SA?

My hubby and I have decided that the way we want to have our family is via adoption, intercountry is appealing. I am struggling to find information on people's experiences and as it varys so much from state to state, thought this would be a good place to see what information is out there. We don't directly know anyone who is going through this process.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Heidley,
Congrats on your decision There is likely to be a parent-run support group in SA that is similar to this one of ours in Canberra (http://www.adoption.org.au/) Ours runs events and welcomes waiting parents to these too. You will also meet people through the course of your training too. If you have a particular country in mind there are also country-specific support groups (ie: for China, the Philippines). Good luck

    Hi lady Jane,
The info session is on the 15th May if there are enough interested people.
We have been seriously thinking and looking at options for having our family for the last 6 months, but struggling to get info from those who have been there already. Looking forward to the information session and hope to make some connections with others looking into it.

Thanks Heidely I'm waiting off on a phone call to find out more info as I rung up on Friday and the person I needed to deal with was not available so hopefully returns my call today.

Hi @Heidley & @lady jane, just wondering if you went ahead with applying and how it's all going? We went to an info session in Adelaide in Feb and after our second failed IVF we feel ready to apply for ICA.

Hi MrsZebu after the information session and follow up with an adoption consultant we decided not to proceed as our family has a few factors that limited our options and the countries we were most interested in weren't dealing with SA or had suspended applications due to the numbers they had received. All the best with your journey 😃
