Default When people make a comment about your name or mispronounce it

I work in a call centre, as you can imagine I speak to a lot of people and the comments I get about my name make me laugh and get on my nerves at the same time.

Who else gets sick of the comments or being called a completely different sounding name

Take this middle aged customer for example ~
    Customer: You names what
    Me: *******
Customer: like the boy on packed to the rafters
Me: exactly the same, now about the reason you called
Customer: how does it feel to be named after an actor on a TV show? Are your parents big fans of the show? Is that why they named you *******?
Me: yes see they knew 27 years ago that channel 7 would make a show in 20 years time and have one of the actors characters in the show called ******** and they decided to name me that because they knew they would love show and be its biggest fans.
Customer: wow isn't that lovely. But your name is spelt different that his.

And it went on until I told her I've never watched and episode in my life and neither had me parents.

Also I've been told by a customer I have a name like a golden retriever.

Sometimes I wish I had a name like Jess or one you can find on those cups they sell lol

Haha well Im a Jessica - I hate being called Jess though (I think it sounds like a stripper name haha) so most people call me Jessi (boy or girl it was going to be my name). Im constantly asking people not to call me Jess though

Lol, my name is two 'normal' names, joined with -

I get either the first, second or sometimes my middle name (what??)

The variations in spelling drive me insane too.

'Yes isn't it wonderful my parents chose my unique name random stranger, would you like to share yours so I can stuff it up too?'

I used to get it all the time working reception.
My name is Stephanie. I'd get Tiffany, Daphne and once even got Jess lol

People can never pronounce my last name either. It's not hard, said exactly how it's spelt.

I wish that I had a dollar for every time that I have to spell, or explain, or get complimented on my name because I would be a millionaire.

I hated my name growing up because of the above, but now I love that it is different and draws comment. I still get sick of spelling it though.

I'm so used to it. My name is really unusual I've never met another in my life. I mainly get positive comments on it or the "that's unusual". I hated it growing up but I've come to own it these days. I mainly go by my nn Nell as I work in childcare and it's easier for the children but when I answer the phone I always (out of habit) use my full name and I hear the parents hesitate wondering who the hell is that! I get called a variety of similar sounding names and I just answer to all of them, much easier then correcting every second person who can't pronounce it.

My name is the same as a cartoon character... Some people don't get it but those who know the show find it hilarious... I once ordered something online and someone thought it was so funny they stuck a picture of the character onto the back of the envelope...( I look like the character too...eek!)
