Default Help! This is so confusing!

Im 34 wks pregnant and trying to get my head around this maternity and paid parental leave thing.

I know Im entitled to 18 wks full or 28 wks half pay from my employer, which has to start at the latest on my babys actual date of birth.

I am also eligible for the paid parental leave scheme from the government.

My question is do i get one or the other or am I entitled to both? Can I take the mat leave first then take the PPL?

Ive tried googling it but I just dont understand if I get one or both??

    Thanks in advance.

You definitely get both... Not so sure about you taking them at the same time though

I was able to take my 18 weeks from work then the government PPL after that. When you apple for the PPL they will ask you what date you wish payments to commence and you just nominate it to commence after your work maternity leave.

You're entitled to both, and can choose whether you take them at the same time or one after the other. Keep in mind that government PPL is only payable while you're on parental leave, i.e. if you were to go back to work before you had received all of your PPL you forfeit the remainder. The PPL also has to be taken in full before the baby's 1st bday, or again you forfeit the remainder.

Can the ppl be claimed in retrospect? This may sound dumb but due to illness and other personal reasons I could not get around to applying. My DD is nearly 18 months old.
