    Thanks for all of your replies This couple really loves and looks after this dog, so I know they'd happily provide everything the dog needs (ie, it was on diet biscuits when it stayed over recently).

    She did offer to bring something back for us from the US - she suggested an iPad (as they're cheaper over there) but maybe I'll suggest some duty free perfume or something

    Last time we went overseas I had a friend come in to look after our cats. She came every second day and fed them/ changed litter/ cuddles etc. she insisted she didn't want anything but I left her a card with $400. We were away for 2 weeks and I figured she would be using her car to get to our house to look after our pets so i wanted to at least give her petrol money! I understand why your friend wants to give you money. It is such a relief not having to rely on kennels or a cattery. She of course didn't want to accept so I left the $$ in a thank you card once we had left so she had to take it!
