    Main hospital or birth centre?
I had my DS in the birth centre 3 weeks ago. Both my sisters have had both of there babies in the main hospital.

I was there for 11 days, 6 days bed rest and 5 days post emergency cs, and it was great. I was originally booked in at SJOG Murdoch but had to deliver at kemh due to gestation. The room and bathroom was quite old, but the midwives were brilliant, meals reasonable and the labour and birth suite and nurseries all refurbished recently.

I'm going to voluntarily go there for my next.

I have had both children there & cannot fault it. The standard of care was excellent.

I was booted out less than 4 hours after having a traumatic first birth. DH left after DS was born to get something I urgently needed from home and the midwives kept hassling me to tell him to come pick me up asap. I had to be taken to the car in a wheelchair and could barely move I was so out of it from the drugs and shock.
I will not step foot in that place again, it was horrid.

I had dd2 there. I thought they were great. I was in 4 days, dd2 was in nicu due to being prem. Nicu staff were great too.

Can you chose to give birth there? They told me unless you're high risk they don't take anyone who isn't in the zone.

I will be classed as high risk with my next which is why I can choose. But I believe you're correct, unless you're referred due to high risk there is a limited 'intake zone' for the main hospital.

Wow! I was in over the Christmas/new year period 2011 and they said they were very close to capacity and they still asked me if I wanted to stay longer (I wasn't handling having dd2 in nicu and having to go home which was an hour and a half away).

I would have complained if I was treated the way you were. Appalling.

On another note though OP, you do feel like a number for your antenatal appointments but when it came down to the business end, I had a very good experience.
