I'm doing Accupuncture this cycle and taking coq10 plus evilit. Hoping that helps increase my numbers. Though, I'm on the same dose I was on when I overstimulated (150iu). I didn't do anything else on the other cycles. Fingers crossed ill know tomorrow.

lol Ngaiz...my dh can't even look at the needles. He's so squeamish.

They increased my dose from 125 to 150 and went from 6 eggs to 13. I was doing acupuncture. I think 7 fertilised, but the quality was much better which I put down to doing acupuncture, transferred 2, bfn. Got to freeze 2 and it was the frozen ones that got me the BFP.
Hope you scan goes ok, when is your epu?

lol Ngaiz - thats hilarious . I've never really considered accupuncture before as my hormones and cycles are so normal and I am very healthy (exercise & eat well etc). With DH being a doc we are not really into the alternative medicines/therapy's etc as for most there is no proof or trials to show that it works and the people that provide these services are not required to undergo any formal training or qualifications (basically anyone can do it). Although he does agree that Acupuncture definitely has its place.

For instance - he does not think that I need any type of "adjusting" because I only produced 2 eggs on 100 Puregon - because my body is only supposed to produce 1 egg. The drugs are supposed to alter what my body is "supposed" to do (produce more than 1 egg). Any failing on my ability to produce more than 1 egg is purely my response to the drug and the dosage. He said it can also be the timing on the cycle and stimulation - He said that you can get varying numbers from cycle to cycle because at different times you will have more follicles of similar size - which end up maturing at the same time which coincides with EPU.

Lol- sorry for the essay but this is what I have to listen to hahaha

To a degree, I would have to agree with your husband mumsical, but only to a degree. Acupuncturists do infact undergo training, and it's rather lengthy at that. I tried it for a few months (not during IVF) - it wasn't for me, I wouldn't write it off completely because I do feel it has it's place, if anything, it helped me relax. For the 45min session I was able to zone out, it was pure indulgence - me time, kinda like having a massage. I don't believe it altered my fertility though! I think if your gonna do it at all, go with someone who has a fantastic reputation, word of mouth and for me personally, I would want a Chinese therapist. My acupuncturist was australian born & bred, despite her dedicated 15 or so years in the profession having studied for at least 6 of those years in Japan or wherever, she didn't quite cut it for me. But that's just me, she talked a lot & used very little needles...I wanted an authentic Chinese therapist who would say very little but do a lot lol.

I also agree that the drugs are supposed to alter our hormones in order to produce greater number of follicles but unfortunately timing and our own bodies can interfere in that too, at times we may be more receptive to the drugs than at other times & different people metabolise the drugs better than others. I added in coq10 + aspirin amongst other things this month & believe they did help in regards to maturity of my eggs & quality of the embryos produced. I have low AMH & therefore egg quality issues, so to have 10 out of 12 good eggs & fantastic quality embryos I think speaks for itself. I rely upon research & studies undertaken by fertility specialists & endocrinologists, I wouldn't expect an oncologist or emergency consultant to have much to say on reproductive medicine. We're all at this clinic for the same reason, we prob all have different barriers to conception but despite being healthy, which I am, perfect BMI, normal, regular cycles, no asthma, diabetes, allergies or ANY ailments, I haven't been able to achieve pregnancy in 3 years of trying. Nil miscarriages, nil pregnancies total, and that's with patent tubes, healthy uterus & ovaries & hubby with super sperm! This clinic will only take me so far...I may even (FX) fall pregnant naturally (medically speaking there's no reason why I can't) but I've waited too long & I ain't getting any younger, I'd rather look back childless in 5 years knowing that I'd done everything in my power to achieve pregnancy than childless having not explored every available avenue to achieve pregnancy. I have a consultation with gyno next week re: further lap to remove endo cos some bull**** doctor who's all about surgery thinks I need to "at least have another look"...I know my endo was MILD before, I'm not sick, cancer patients are sick, sick people need surgery - I don't. But I will go along to this consultation, get a 2nd opinion & if need be let them poke holes in me again, cos in 5 years time I can look back knowing I did everything I could to be a mum & didn't just wait for it to happen. It will happen though, I know it will...I also know my body better than ANY doctor.

I agree with you Pap on a Chinese accupuncturist! The lady I've been seeing is full blown Chinese (and is hard to understand). She uses many, many needles and has 25 years experience. So far I'm happy.

Twiglets, so far like you, the Accupuncture, along with the coq10 I've been taken, seems to be working wonders. Had my second scan today and I have about 9 follies (5 on one side and 4 on the other of 12-15mm) and that's much better than the last two cycles where I had a mere 2 and 3! Not only was I hoping for better numbers but also better quality. Though we are at the clinic for MFI, my egg quality was very questionable last cycle.

If all goes to plan and I get good numbers etc, I wouldn't be able to help but put it down to the Accupuncture and coq10. The other three cycles I did nothing.

Pending nice hormone levels my EPU is scheduled for Tuesday. I'm excited about the prospect of getting some frosties this cycle and also doing a 3 day transfer!

Twiglets, could you please enlighten me on the costs of FETs.

Yes - both DH and I agree that acupuncture has its place if done correctly - it has some proven benefits for sure. I was interested to know what type of acupuncture you ask for and what it is supposed to do in relation to fertility etc. Pappillon - I think I would be like you and want a little chinese original!

My DH does not mean to imply that they have no training - this reference was more to include Naturopaths (excluding physician naturopaths) homeopaths, hippy's handing out magical teas etc lol

I too am doing everything I can to have another baby. I am 33 and my AMH is 21 so no probs there. Regular 28 day cycles - definitely ovulating and no progesterone issues. No strange or painful cycles. I have a boy just turned 2 conceived quickly and naturally. I am the same weight now as I was when I conceived him - BMI just inside the healthy range for my height 1.75m. I am fit, never smoked, drinks sometimes but very rare do I get drunk. Same with DH. Sperm analysis came back really high both in numbers, morph & mobility.

Nobody in my family is overweight, had heart disease, cancer, diabetes or any type of health issues. 3 out of 4 grandparents still kicking on strong etc. Nobody with any fertility issues.

Its all a bit of a mystery although we may just be unlucky after 18 months (19 natural cycles) TTC. I am like you - just want to know that I am not doing anything to prevent conception and I can look back and know I have given it 100%. The only thing I have not done is have a Lap - but without any symptoms of a problem and having a baby born July 2011 - its seems unnecessary at this point....

I totally believe it's different every time. It's so interetsing seeing everyone's differring opinions especially between the doctors that work at the clinic. Totally into acupuncture!! And I can't help bit take vitamins, it feels like I'm doing something.

This cycle is hell, my bleeding has got super heavy when it should have stopped. I soaked a pad in 2 hours and large clots the size of 50c coins. Sorry, TMI. The clinic has said to carry on for now an see how I go over the weekend.

Trying - I paid $700 for deposit of fet. I'm still waiting for Medicare cheques, but looking through paperwork the final invoice will be aprox $642, and aprox Medicare rebate of $751 so out of $600 as I'm over the safety net I should get more back! Mine was a medicated fet and I was on prognova 1tab 3x day started on these day after period started.56 tablets in a box costs me $11. Then u pay for pessaries or crinone thru TFC. Pessaries are cheaper at $53.45 for 15. I think the crinone was $80ish for 15. I'll be on pessaries & prognova until 12 Wks. On pessaries twice a day.
I think there has been a small increase in prices for fet and stim cycles?

I don't think I would have got a BFP doing a whole cycle. I think my body needed the time to recover, not that I had any issues with epu and transfer. I didn't do a natural fet as I often have spotting about a week before period starts so the thickness of lining might have been an issue if I had gone down the natural fet option.

Twig that's really cheap for pessaries, I can get them at cost from work and we pay $75/box of 15. I was willing to pay more elsewhere for confidentiality as my work is full of busy bodies. I'm on day three and feeling really good, we are having a few drinks tonight for DH birthday, I'm drinking my favourite beer (just a couple of course) in the hope it's my last drink for a while.

Ngaiz - I hope you had fun over the weekend for you DH's bday

Twiglets - oh this sounds much better for the price of a FET - so you just pay around $700 but get more back from medicare so your out of pocket is around the same as a natural cycle? Is it just the freezing that is costly? How much upfront/out of pocket does that work out to be?
