Default Professor Luk Rombauts at Monash IVF.

Just wondering if anyone is under the care of Professor Luk Rombauts at Monash IVF, and if so, what is he like? We've been referred to him today and have our first appointment with him on 13th March. Thanks

Sorry I don't know much about this Dr, however if you don't love him you can always swap (you just need a new gp referral for the new Dr). My friend used to work for Lyn burmeister and RAVED about her, I think lots of patients love her! Sorry I can't help more but someone else may be able to.... Have you googled him? Does he have an area of expertise (male factor, pcos etc)? Often Drs will refer to the specialist they know rather than the best specialist for your situation. Good luck for your appt

Hi, yes i do have experience with him. My hubby had a micro-TESE surgery done from him. He was open to asking questions and answered them. He's not overly-friendly type i think, he's very professional though. He also did my embryo transfer in November last year.

One awkward thing was that even though we'd met him before and hubby had done surgery with him, he didn't recognise us or acknowledge us when he came in to do the embryo transfer. Unlike Dr Nick Lolatgis who stood between my legs after embryo transfer and shared a joke.

Hi Siansmum, yes Dr Rombauts was my FS through Monash IVF. I agree that he's not overly warm or friendly with a great bed side manner. At timed he was a bit abrupt. That said, he is very professional and he knows his stuff and explains things thoroughly. I felt like he provided us with good advice and we were extremely lucky to fall pregnant on our first round (and now have a beautiful 6 month old) So I would recommend him so long as you don't expect a warm and cuddly doctor. Hope this helps

Hi Siansmum, we have been patients of Dr Rombauts for our entire long and bumpy infertility ride. We chose Dr Rombauts because of his professional reputation as being one of the best doctors available. He has been a wonderful doctor, and we never for a moment considered changing to someone else. He has been kind, compassionate, generous with his time and knowledge, and has made sure that both my husband and I have been included and involved in decisions regarding all aspects of our various treatments. At the same time, he has been very honest and frank with us when he has had the unpleasant task of delivering some pretty difficult messages to us that we never wanted to hear. We’ve also both felt that he’s always had our best interests as his priority, which has meant that we both have a high level of trust in Dr Rombauts and his advice.

Dr Rombauts is not overly extroverted and effusive, and not a touchy feely kind of person (neither am I!). But please don’t mistake that for him not caring.

Your choice of doctor is very personal, and what works for us may not work for you and your partner. I don’t want a loud and extroverted doctor. I do want someone who I implicitly trust, who we both feel comfortable with, and someone who is going to be able to provide us with the best professional care possible. For us, Luk fits the bill.

I’ve recommended Dr Rombauts to friends and colleagues who’ve had the misfortune of requiring a fertility specialist, and I would not hesitate to recommend him to you either.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. It's always good to hear the opinions of others. We met with Luk last week and found him to be open and honest with us, telling us that we've basically got one cycle to see if I respond to the highest dose of Menopur. If I don't respond and produce a good number of follicles, it's not worth trying any more cycles. So...we go for our counselling next week and I need to have an internal ultrasound. Then I suppose it's just a case of waiting until AF arrives and then we'll start. Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my question.

He was my dr too. Professional and capable but not the best personal skills. Very curt and to the point which I understand you need to be sometimes but it was off putting.

I saw him quite a few occasions. He's a great doctor but we didn't click.
