i would be worried/scared/angry/confused...huge hugs to you and your family. My DH would be the same...he would be so angry but more because he would be scared for us all.

I hope the next few weeks fly by and the results come back clear.

im going to see the same doctor i saw last time and will speak to him about it all... i will look into getting an incident report and might call up legal aid and see if it is worth doing anything or not...

im not sure where to even start it all seems so surreal

Oh god that is awful. Did they throw the needle out or did they hold on to it so that it could be tested? I would assume that testing it might show up if there was anything nasty present, maybe?

Just sending . I'm sure you will be fine.

As an aside, if they don't already, I would demand that that Dr surgery have a sharps bin put in that bathroom.

Hey petal!! I'm so sorry you're having to go through this!!! If it makes you feel better, a virus like HIV doesn't live very long outside of the body. At uni a few years ago there was a presentation on it in one of my classes and apparently there had never been a documented case in Australia of HIV transmission through an accidental needle stick from an abandoned needle outside a healthcare setting.

I hope this makes you feel a bit better while you wait

Also it is THEIR responsibility to an incident report and keep the needle. If they haven't done so, they have merely failed to protect themselves legally and that would not disadvantage you.

I would address it to the practise manager and or owner.

I would suggest something along the lines of:

I attended your clinic on x date and whilst there I used your baby change facilities located in the disabled toilet. Upon lying my daughter down on the change mat I became aware of a sharp sensation in my arm and upon closer inspection realised that a needle had been left on the table.

As I am sure that your can imagine this situation has caused me considerable distress and I am concerned about the possibility of having been exposed to blood borne diseases. I alerted the staff at the clinic immediately and was treated and had blood tests. I am now left with a long wait to ensure that I have not contracted anything.

I have a number of concerns,

.....just for starters. leave this to you now

When writing letters I find it best to put everything you want to say in point form, then go from there.

    Huge hugs!

thank-you guys thats a great start! i will sit down in the morning and type up a letter and post it here before i send it off...

i am thinking of handing it into the clinic when i have to go back and going to insist that i be bumped to the front of the line and not have to wait as the wait at the bulk bill clinic can be up to 1 hour plus...

i woulnt have to be back there if i wasnt pricked in the first place... do you think that is a reasonable request?
