Default Looking for an expectant Mum (or Dad) in Melbourne Nth/Inner Nth - Infant Observation

    February 2013

Re: Seeking a parent/baby couple for an infant observation

    Dear Expectant Parents,

I am a counselling psychologist and a trainee in the Professional Training Program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists (VAPP). One training requirement is to undertake an infant observation.

I am seeking a willing caregiver-baby couple (primary caregiver can be a mother or father) whom I could observe, once per week for one hour, over a one-year period. The purpose is to observe the unfolding relationship and attachment. Ideally, your baby would be due between late now and April 2013, and I would prefer a couple in the inner north or northern suburbs of Melbourne as I live in Northcote. However, I would be more than happy to hear from any interested parents.

While it is best to meet with the parents prior to the birth of their baby, I could commence the observation with a newborn. It is best to start the observation as soon as possible after the birth; but of course, it is up to the parents when the observation starts. Many mothers who have been involved in an infant observation report the process to be a valuable experience.

Thank you for considering this request. Please contact me if you are interested and I can provide more information about myself and the infant observation process

    Kind Regards,

    Dr Adam Becker MAPS
