Default What is north west private in Brisbane like?

    Hey everyone
I am pregnant with by first bub and my Fertility specialist has just referred me to one of his colleagues who is also an ob at north west private hospital - Dr Jamie friebe. Does anyone have any experience with this ob and hospital?
What are the nurses and midwives there like?
I kind of wanted to go to the mater mothers but my fs said friebe is great and north west is just as good as the mater mothers just that if anything goes wrong with bub they take them to the royal....not to sure how I feel about this...do I get to go to the royal with them?
If I'm not happy with north west do I get to choose a different hospital or do I just have to go wherever my fs refers me?

    Thanks ladies!

What side of town do you live on? If your south side - go to the Mater as you wouldn't want to be trying to get across the Story Bridge and up Gympie Rd at 5pm on a Friday arvo in labour.

Are you having an elective caesarean or going to be spontaneously labouring?

If you're near the mater I would ask for a referral to a doctor to the mater hospital, that way if you or bub are sick you can stay there and you won't need to go to a different hospital if your're in preterm labour.

The other bonus of being at a private/public hospital is that if there is an emergency and your OB isn't there yet and is 20mins away stuck in traffic, there will always be other obstetric doctors in the actual hospital who will be able to help you and bub if needed. Especially if its in unexpected. At the private hospital there won't be spare doctors floating around.

No problem!!! Since you're north side you'd probably want to avoid Mater just because of traffic going cross-river. Have a look at the Wesley as well

I had DD at the North West, and am going there again for this pregnancy. I haven't seen Jamie, but the obstetricians and midwives there that I have seen have been great. I had a really good experience there last time - hence why I'm going again!

I had Jaimie Friebe, and i can tell you he is EXCELLENT!! you will love the northwest, the rooms are huge, you get your own fridge and bathroom too. nurses are lovely. I think with any hospital no matter where you go to, if bubby needs to go to the royal, you end up staying where you are and baby goes. northwest have a very good special care unit too. parking is free, and Jaimie is not a pushy ob at all.

North West was good, but if bub gets transferred to Royal you don't go too. DS was transferred Fri night, I couldn't go too, so I was discharged Sat morning and then booked a hotel room near the Royal. It was an awful time, and being at a different hospital from your sick baby is traumatic.

That said, I wouldn't worry unless it is likely your baby will need to be transferred. If it is likely, then I would see if you can deliver at RBH instead.
