Default No colouring hair while pregnant...fact or fiction?

    Hey all,
I am 7.2 weeks pregnant with my first and am getting so much conflicting information on this I am hoping someone can give me a definitive answer.

So is it true you can't colour while pregnant? Some people have said after 12 weeks is fine, others not at all and some say of course you can! So which is it, honestly?
My best friend is a hairdresser and she told me it is fine, she has had a bub of her own and knows how hard we have worked just to get this far in our pregnancy so would never intentionally tell me anything that would harm bub.

I have blonde hair but havnet had it done for nearly 7 weeks so my regrowth is well and truly showing, I just feel yuck when by hair looks like that and adding morning sickness and bloated I don't feel my best right now so getting my regrowth would be a real pick me up!
I only ever get the roots done, it isn't bleached and stays on for aprx half an hour or so .
Do you think bub will be OK if I go and get it done?

If there is any way it will hurt my baby or cause miscarriage I am more than happy to suffer the gross look lol bub comes first!!!
Just thought I would try get to the bottom of this debate

Your friend/hairdresser is right. Just do it in a well ventilated room

Personally I would wait until after 12 weeks. I always dye my hair brown when TTC for this reason, I hate regrowth and waiting 12 weeks to get it done is a long time. I am now 35 weeks and have gone back blonde.

I don't see how inhaling all those untested chemicals could be safe. The same goes for painting.

Some people forget that they are putting some extremely harsh chemicals onto your head.

In saying that, If your happy to do it and think its safe enough. Go for it. As I said its all untested.

I had my hair bleached throuought my pregnancy (highlights) with no problems. I trawled the Internet and could find no information that it was harmful. Always best to do it a well ventilated room ( mainly because the smell may make you feel sick) maybe have foils if you are a bit worried, that way it's not touching your scalp so much.

Its fine. I just did a head of foils so nothing was actually touching my scalp.

just remember whatever you put on you skin/scalp will be absorbed into your blood****** , therefore some of it may reach baby.
i got my hair coloured - just highlights not a full head of colour when i was in my 3rd trimester. At least this way i would have nice hair for when bub's was here and i wouldnt have to go back for a while - too busy caring for new baby anyways!!

I waited until the second trimester for DD1 and then only had foils done. I found the hormones caused my hair to take ages to come down and instead of 1 hr it took 3. There is no concrete evidence either way so with my history of miscarriage I prefer to err on the side of caution. I also recently had my re growth done straight onto the scalp not realising I was pregnant at the time and had a severe reaction. I ended up with a burnt scalp. So just be wary and wear headbands for a while if you choose to wait.

I asked my doctor regarding this and she said as long as (as others have said) you are in a well ventilated room and avoid chemicals touching scalp as much as possible you are okay>

I get foils done and an igora (think that is it) natural toner over top.

Did it with my son and hasn't harmed him!
