I was told not to make too big a deal of it. Just put them to bed as normal and keep the same routine.

Also putting the bed in the same spot as the cot supposedly helps also....

    Single, no rail.

We put DD in a king single just after she turned 2. Made a big deal, she loved it, was all good for a few months. Then she learnt how to open doors...

We cannot keep her in her bed, up and down for hours, major regression. So she is happily back in the cot sleeping 12 hours again. Her big girl bed is still in her room and she plays on it and reads books there but isn't interested in sleeping in it again yet. I know loads of kids who have stayed in the cot until they were 3 so I'm not worried. New bub due in may will be in bassinet for a while anyway.

DD went in to a single bed with rail at 17 months. we made a huge deal about it and she lovessss her big girl bed. she sleeps so much better in the single bed than when she was in a cot.
