Default When to transition from cot?

Hi everyone, just wondering what age you transitioned your toddler into a big bed? My 2yr old DS 'rocks' himself to sleep sitting up in his cot (always has, don't worry we've had it looked into, it's just habit now) so I'm nervous as to how he'll go without the cot wall? Baby #2 is due in Oct so I'm unsure as to whether we should transition him from his cot before or after the baby arrives? Any tips or suggestions would be awesome thanks x

Default When to transition from cot?

I moved her when she climbed out of it, she was 2.5

I would transition before baby, as it can take a while for them to adjust. Make a big deal out of the big bed, like it is special, helped us.

We moved DS into his own queen size bed at 18 months when started trying to climb out of the cot. We made a huge deal of the new bed and he has loves it!

I definitely recommend before bub arrives. We transitioned our daughter at 21 months which was 4 months before DD3 arrived and had no dramas. She kept wanting to sleep in her cot for a opulent of days but then forgot about it.

Default When to transition from cot?

I wouldn't rush just because a new baby is coming, they might feel put out.

I put my son in a cot because he was climbing out, so moved him to a bed. After 2 months of nightmare bedtime, sleeping at night deterioration and him losing sleep, we ended up putting him back in his cot.

I also have a 9 week old and would buy a second hand cot for her if she outgrows her bassinet before my son is ready to move to a bed again.

Default When to transition from cot?

We tried to transition DD2 (2yrs2mths) as im due in a few weeks. It went terribly and she's back in the cot happily sleeping 12hrs a night.
We borrowed another cot from my brother for the new bub - luckily we had that option

Thanks so much Ladies, great advice! I think we'll get his new bed ahead of time and get him excited about his 'big boy bed' so it doesn't come as a shock when he sleeps in it... One more question though, did you start with a toddler bed or a single/king single with bed rail?

My daughter has had a double bed since May 2012. She turned 2 in August 2012 so about 21 months. She loves it and has never rolled out and there's plenty of room for us to cuddle & read stories

I'm giving it a few more days otherwise back to the cot.
