Hmmm my DS had 8 absences last semester and I didn't think that was too bad.
I've never actually written a note yet.
My mother always wrote: 'please excuse **** absence, her reason being illness'.
I think i will just steal that. In reality it's none of the schools business why a child is away.
One day is a lot, especially when you are continuing from previous day the child was absent. But, stuff happens, kids get sick, not much we can do about it.
I had a child with 83 absences last semester and that was before the year had finished as I left for maternity leave in November.
DD1 only has about 3 absences a year so far. I'm lucky she never gets sick (drives her nuts). I know a few parents who let their kids have mental health days several times a term. It doesn't really bother me what other parents do except DD finds out about it and asks me why she can't have them. When I ways growing up my parents are both medically trained so we never had sick days. I still remember standing in my bedroom convinced I was going to die from something and my father saying "are you bleeding" and when I said no he said I had to go to school.
So I do remember the odd note that said "she was bleeding". God knows what they thought of it.
For DD I say she was sick.
DD2 get sick very easily so will be interesting to see how many absences she has.
