I think he is a bully who is playing the mental illness card. Being a d***head thug is not a mental illness.

If you look back at all his violent behaviours, haven't they all been when he's been either high on something or drunk? That has nothing to do with mental illness - it has everything to do with anger problems.

As far as I am concerned he is a thug that gets away with it because of who he is. He said he "followed the system" like everybody else. Crap! If he wasn't a Newton and in "show business" he wouldn't have had it so easy. Look at Lohan and Hilton - because they are famous they get away with their crap. Look at that footy player in WA (can't think of his name) with the massive drug problem. Joe Blogs next door wouldn't have gotten away with what he has.

When discussing the violence he was saying something like "I have to own it. Im totally to blame". Isn't that what they teach you at the Betty Ford clinic? That you have to "own it" and take the blame. I don't think he believes it or is sorry. As far as I'm concerned he isn't sorry for hurting the cabbie, either ex girlfriend or the reception clerk, he certainly didn't say he was sorry or act that way.

He is a complete tool as far as I'm concerned and shouldn't be given the time of day.

I think there's something a bit off about the whole family and their need for publicity, any publicity. You cannot raise kids in the spotlight and not expect some damage.

I think he has a personality disorder and seems as deep as a puddle. I think we will definitely be seeing more of him and not in a good way...,

This is where my thoughts are as well.

I find it incredibly frustrating that he's allowed to even do an interview that yet again gives him the opportunity to make poor excuses for his actions.

He paints such a poor picture for what mood/personality disorder actually is.

He didn't appear tortured to me, he appeared high as a kite.

Matthew just comes across as a man with anger and control issues. Not someone who genuinely suffers a mental illness.

If he was dating one of my friends, I'd tell them to run. Fast.

I think he undermines people who struggle daily with mental illness that try their utmost to function, to be the best person that they can be, and to remain accountable for their behaviour.

Mental illness is not one size fits all, there are so many different types and each person reacts in a different way. Do I think he has a mental illness? Who knows, I am not his psychiatrist and neither is anyone else on here. Does Anthony Waterlow have mental health issues? Or is he just hiding behind the mental health card? I don't think anyone can really speculate on wether or not someone has mental health issues unless they are the persons care providers of course.

I agree. There is no way to know and speculation actually does a lot to demonise people with mental illness. Many people with mental health issues are in denial about their illness, sometimes for many years and sometimes for their entire life. Him saying he doesn't have a diagnosed mental illness means nothing IMO.

I'm not sure what the point of 60 minutes interview was tbh, felt a little like they were out to get him or trap him in some way. Which looking at some of the comments here they managed to do rather well.
