    Default Upper Lip Tie

Hi, i was hoping for some info and to find out if anyone had been through something similar.
i just noticed my 15 month old has a pretty bad upper lip tie joining between her top two teeth and continuing down to the palate behind where the teeth are.
i have some photo's which i hope turn out.

she already has a gap in her teeth that you can see, but i am wondering if her not talking (not even saying mama or dada) at 15 months of age may have something to do with this.
would i be best to see a dentist or a GP?
    would she need surgery?

I would go and see your GP. They will probably refer you to an oral surgeon who will just do a quick snip of the upper lip frenulum under anaesthetic. The anaesthetic is a very quick one and being the mouth, it will heal extremely quickly. The earlier you get it done, the better. She will probably just be slightly uncomfortable afterward but not really "sore" iykwim.

Just wondering if you ended up going to a GP or specialist? I've just noticed my toddler has this too- not that it's causing her any problems but just want to follow it up.

My 8mo daughter had a posterior tongue tie and an upper lip tie. I had the tongue snipped at 2 weeks old, but it grew back.

Had both ties lasered by a dentist when she was 4mo. The tongue has grown back again but the lip is good.

I am part of a great support group on Facebook, there is lots of people posting their issues on there, plus they have lists of providers that will do these types of corrections. Mostly US people, but I found the dentist on there. Search tongue tie babies support group on Facebook to request membership.

Left untreated tongue and lip ties can create speech, eating and dental problems, so best to get it treated if you can.

Hi there, My DS3 had a lip tie, to be honest, I didn't even realise you were meant to do anything for it, evenutally it tore. He is fine now, there is still a flap of gum there though. I might get it checked out after reading the above post!

I discovered DD (11 months) has upper lip tie a few weeks ago. I've taken her to the doctor and he recommended that it just be left alone as it shouldn't affect nursing or speech.

My baby boy had upper lip tie & tongue tie. We got both ties scissored when he was 6 weeks old. However I just noticed today (he is 9 months now) that his lip tie has reattached!!! Not sure about the tongue as I have not managed to get a proper look of his tongue as he puts up a fight every time I try to check on his tongue. I'm not sure what to do now? should I get it released again? And if so, by surgical cut or laser? Any recommendations of a good place to get it done here in Sydney?
