    Default Am i in labor?

Im around 38 weeks pregnant and all day my stomach has been getting very hard an tight and quite uncomfortable. I have also had very severe back pain for the last few hours the tightenings in my stoach have started to get painful and are getting worse as is the pain in my back. when i walk it gets worse. i havnt been able to isolate individual contractions though so im not sure if thats what it is nor have i been able to calculate the time between the pains/ tightenings. I also have a really strong feeling of needing to go to the toilet (both bowel and bladder) when i have gone severall times already and there just isnt anything there.

Also in the last few days i have had alot of night sweats been very uncomfortable and felt alot of pressure in my vagina and on my tail bone. I have been taking raspberry leaf extract tablets, used a breast pump and taken 15ml of castor oil this morning in the hopes of bringing on labour.

It could be. If you can, try to time the tightenings. If they are regular ie every 10 minutes, or half hour etc then there is a big possibility of being in labour.

It could also be Braxton Hicks.

Well said. I had also thought that maybe the castor oil is causing some discomfort regarding the needing to go to the toilet (it is known to cause diarrhoea).

Also it is worth mentioning that my labour with dd2 started with my waters breaking and then tightenings. Not painful. But just tightenings. they were easy to time though. But they did start at 2 minutes apart immediately. I got an ambulance ride too

The strong feeling of needing to do a poo. That is what pushing feels like. But it is an uncontrollable need to do what feels like a massive poo.

I had Braxton Hicks ALL through my pregnancy from about 6 weeks. They were not regular. They felt the same as my contractions but my contractions were regular enough to be able to be timed.

The tightening AND back pain male me think it could be. Mine started like that. Try to time the tightenings or the peak of the back pain. If they are regular, getting closer or more painful contact the hospital. Good luck.
