I'm old school. Only the last layer has a prize. So only one winner.

I don't cater to whiney, spoilt children, not everything in life is win/win

For younger kids id put something like a small lolly or choc in each layer with the last one being the main prize..with older kids id say just the one prize at the end. but the person who is turning the music on and off has to turn their back to make it fair

    That's the spirit.

I personally couldn't give a stuff what others do at their parties. I'm one of THOSE parents who dumps and runs so I wouldn't have a clue what goes on . but we'll keep catering to the whiny, spoilt kids at our parties.

Just to clarify, as I'm nit sure the winky man was clear, my "whiney, spoilt children" line was tongue in cheek. I wouldn't think ill if a child who reacted from not getting a gift in pass the parcel, I'd comfort them and explain that they might get something in the next game, and that they'd have a little something to take home.

But yeah, games are games, not an "everybody wins something" affair.

DDs only 3 but we will always do it like this:

I brought stamp texters, glitter pens, note pads, paints, stickers, coloring sets etc. everyone won a "big" present.

Other games do have a winner but we usually just do stickers for those, we will no doubt do it a bit differently the older they get though..

    Meh...

My girls are having their 4th birthday party at home this year.
I'm inviting the whole class as they are twins and do have different friends.
I'll be putting a small prize in each layer because *I* want to. I'm also hiring a jumping castle and all kids will get a party bag.

I personally don't see that as OTT, if others do well that's their issue.

I put something small (eg stickers) in each layer and something larger (eg book) as the main prize.

Would have been fine if there was nothing in the layers and one prize at the end or if it were more random as to which layers had a prize and which didnt but for the majority to get a choc and then for 3 to get nothing was a little harsh for 5yr olds.
