Default Kids pass the parcel - should every kid win

It's pass the parcel, not a race or sports match
    Fair enough

I make sure every layer has something small and then the final prize is something bigger (it might have cost $6). Last year I had a thing of playdoh in every layer and then a Wiggles book as the main prize.

    Kids had a ball.

I havent done it but if I did I would go against my beliefs that not every child should 'win' and I would put a small lolly or chocolate in each layer.......Id rather spend the $5 on a bag of lollies/chocolate and make sure they get one each than have someones kid having a hissy fit because they missed out and the parent tut tutting me for my poor form.
However if I had party games I would only have 'prizes' for the winners.
And everyone would get a lolly bag at the end.

Ive never done a house party though....dont want that many kids running around my house. No thank you

I've always done a freddo frog or chubba chub between each layer and a bigger prize in the middle. Every child gets a turn at a layer then the last layer is random (so the person doing the music turns away) so there can't be any accusations of favouritism.

I think the need for every child to never have to "lose" is getting ridiculous.
At 5yo they just don't understand tho. Maybe by 7 or 8 fair enough, but at 5 I think it's cruel to have then left out (because that is all they see). I was at a 5yo part last year and the Mum had prizes just for the winners in every single game. I saw lots of tears, the 5yo's soon worked out what wad going on but the littlies just didn't get it. Not the point of a party at all, in my book.

I agree, a lolly or a freddo in each layer and then a bigger prize for the 'winner'. It seems a bit mean to give most of the kids a lolly or smaller prize and then have three kids miss out.

I always put something in each layer. I do believe as kids get older they need to learn they can't always win. But not every single little thing has to be a life lesson. Sometimes it's just a fun game with chocolate and toys that everyone can partake in

This is the reason i started the 'why is it not ok for there to be winners and losers' thread. Every child gets a lollie bag at the end of the day anyway (dont get me started on that!!) so i dont see why every child should win a prize. Another reason i think kids birthday parties are becoming way over the top and rediculous. First we HAVE to invite ALL the kids from the class. Then we HAVE to provide party bags. Now we have to provide presents for all the kids. Lets stop being stupid at these birthday parties and remember...ITS ABOUT THE BIRTHDAY CHILD!!!!! They ahould be made to feel like they are the most special person in the world for those few hours. Its THEIR party and THEIR chance to get presents.

    DRIVES me crazy
