Default Kids pass the parcel - should every kid win

Just been to a 5yr olds bday party with DD1.
Kids were all playing pass the parcel (12kids) and 3 of the layers of the parcel didn't have a prize (just a little milky way) in them. Obviously those 3 kids were upset as all the other kids were eating a chocolate & they got nothing.

Just wondering how other people run their pass the parcel for little kids.
When i do it for my kids parties i put a lolly/choc/party toy in each layer - enough layers for all the kids to get a turn and in final layer i put a couple of small lollies/choc/party toy in together.

My DD got a choc so she was happy but her bestie didnt and he was very upset.

I put something in for all - I agree that in theory they have to learn to accept not getting something but I don't want kids whinging and upset at my parties so it's just easier to keep them all happy!

yep, every layer should have something.

Even worse if only a few miss out...that just seems means!

I think every layer should get something tiny, and a bigger prize at the end for the winner. Because those things can go on for ages and get bloody boring!

Wow, I remember there was only ever one big prize, I didn't know there was supposed to be a prize in each layer!

All those years of my childhood... I feel ripped off!

It was always just one winner at the end when we did it!!

I think the need for every child to never have to "lose" is getting ridiculous.

I don't do it so no one "loses"- each layer gets a small prize like a fun sized chocolate or some small novelty, and the last one is a bigger prize, it's clear there's a winner at the end. I just want each child to be happy and enjoy the game, to have fun. When you are one of the 3 out of 12 that misses out, I don't imagine you'd be enjoying that. It's pass the parcel, not a race or sports match

I always put a small treat in every layer with a 'big prize' at the end. Every kid gets a treat then its random for who gets the big prize. That's how I've always played it!
