I see Dr Waters at Burleigh Family Practice. He's not super warm and fuzzy but he is nice and professional and he actually has an obstetrics background. Also, he does Saturday morning appointments which is a major win! If you're not down this end of the coast though that may not suit.

Honestly, it really hasnt sank in yet, and I'm not sure it will until bubs is born. It hits me sometimes and I think, OMG I'm going to have a baby??! I'm very excited though!

Angel, I see Alex Zajkowski at primary in southport. I know him personally as I used to work with him in the emergency dept I work in so he is very good at emergency type stuff. He's just a really smart guy. Bulk bill too which is always a bonus. Where do you live, cause of my job I really get to know who the most popular doctors are on the coast.

Nic - what did your ob say? Are they suggesting an amnio or something? How were your NT results? Let us know if you want to chat about anything. My friends did IVF and had an nt result if 1 in 38. They did an amnio and all is fine with bub.

Re shopping - we actually had our nursery put together 8 months before this successful pregnancy!! (I am a bit of an over achiever when it comes to being organized). We are trying to hold out til after our baby shower before really hitting the shops!! How fun is baby shopping. :-)

EJ - so so excited about your little boy. I agree there has been a flood of baby girls to the point where I looked up gender birth rate stats!! We need to even things out!!

New mummy - yeah we are really relaxed about the pregnancy now. My anxiety really dropped after week 13. The Doppler definitely helped and now Kate can feel the baby everyday it's just constant reassurance. I think I also decided in my own head that everything was going to be fine. Have a good trip to NZ.

Re a GP - we see Dr Ros Loudon at Burleigh west medical centre. She is amazing bulk bills but I don't know I'd she is taking any more new patients...

Fullofhope - my Kate was completely freaked out about doing anything to impact the pregnancy. It's natural to be like that. I doubt a shower would do anything. It's more sitting for a long time in a bath where u really hear your core temp. Standing under a shower doesn't hear u up the same.

AFM we are officially over half way now :-) yeah.

You ladies are so supportive and lovely.

Scan went really well no problems there at all.

I guess my situation is just a little out of the ordinary I think and my OB wasn't so receptive to it.

I'm single and all my family support is in northern nsw. I wanted my OB to do a kind of shared care arrangement with a very good OB in Coffs Harbour where I hope to have my baby. I'm planning on finishing work 6 weeks prior. OB in coffs is more than happy with this and I intend to have appointments with him at easter and in June as well as the end.

The OB I was referred to by my fertility specialist was in agreement but put quite a negative spin on things. I felt her 'turn off' once she thought she may not deliver my baby. Even to the point the receptionist said should she give me the information package and she looked at me and said do you want it? and looked at the receptionist and said we may not be delivering her baby.

She tried to say having scans in Coffs Harbour was a concern (I will be there for 20 week and I wanted my mum to be there so figured I could do it down there) and she said were they reliable enough down there to pick up birth defects as this was important???? Why wouldn't they be? Lots of little things like this to put fear and doubt in my mind rather than reasurance and support for my needs.

Apart from telling me to roll out of bed, sleep on my left side and scare me by not finding bubby's heart beat for a few mins I didn't get much else out of the appointment. Oh and telling me to walk more....considering I just told her that the day before I slipped in the shower and have had my toe nail removed and split my toe open at the end and am having it dressed every three days I'm not sure what she expects me to do!

I could go on and on. I am now considering getting out of the specialist and private hospital merry go round up here. Seeing a GP I have been recommened getting my referrals to my OB in coffs harbour and getting advice from there.

I left there so upset I burst into tears in the car. I just got a bad vibe. Can't really explain why as she was not rude to me in tone or manner. Anyhow a solution will present itself if I keep moving forward.

Sorry for the me rant ladies.

Thank you for listening....or reading I should say!

    Nic

Nic, I say find someone else! You should be supported in your choice, and the idea that GC scans are magically better than Coffs... How ridiculous, it's not like the Goldy is a thriving metropolis and they're our country cousins!

Can you use a GP with an obstetrics background and do a shared care type thing with your Coffs doctor?

Hope you're feeling more okay now -- the problems are so hers and not yours! Xoxo

NewMummy -- no idea sorry. I wouldn't think that infectious kids should be brought around to anyone's house!!

I'm with u Betty I was very annoyed! Nic who are u with? I don't have private health but I pay for the ob that I was seeing for my cycle she's really happy to do shared care with Gold Coast hospital.... Sorry you had such a hard time no body needs that!! I'm sure all the training in ultrasound would be the same so they would be more than capable to do the screening that needs to be done!! Try not to stress lovely!! You will be fine in coffs u just need to find a new person up here to see or like Betty said a gp ..... Take care Hun! Xo
