Default Trying to quit smoking whilst pregnant.

Please don't judge or bash me. I'm asking for advice not a lecture.

Okay, we'll I'm 4 months pregnant and in finding it really hard to completely stop smoking. I have cut down from 5-6 a day to 1-2 a day. I no longer smoke at work, I only smoke one before work in the morning and one in the evening before bed. I was able to cut back, but finding it really hard to quit completely. It's so hard for me to function without a cigarette in the morning and I find I am thinking about it ALL day. I haven't tried any of the nicotine patches because I'm not sure if they are safe during pregnancy. It's even harder when my husband smokes, and he will bring his cigarette packet home and just leave them laying around! After I have told him numerous times to leave them somewhere else! Please help! I'm so worried, I don't want to harm my baby, but it's so hard! It's really doing my head in!

No personal experience but maybe talk to your doctor? They will be able to tell you if any of the quit products are safe in pregnancy or let you know of alternative methods, hypnotherapy might be something to look into? Good luck.

What it is you "miss" the most? For me it's the intake into my lungs. I have one of those vapor cigarettes. It's doesn't work all the time but it does help sometimes.
I know how horrible you must feel I went through the same thing.

You need to be honest with your doctor. That's important.

Good on you for cutting down so far, you are well on the way!
Why don't you try cutting to just the one per day, in the morning? Then after 5 days, go to every second day, do that for say 6 days.... Just gradually taper it off. Do something else in that time you'd normally smoke, a big glass of ice cold water or a sugar free lolly?
All the best with it and your pregnancy

I used the gum (it's safer because it doesn't deliver a constant dose of nicotine like a patch, double check with your doctor though) to get through the initial stage then quit the gum
    Keep up the good work
