    Default Pesto.....

I love Pesto and had about 1/4 jar this morning and something made me do a check up on the net to see if it was safe (something i do often but usually before i've eaten things) looks like mixed reviews - some reckon its the Basil that can cause contractions... I'm not overly concerned but am not eating it again now.

    Anyone else been eating it?

I ate it the whole way through my pregnancy, I love basil pesto! I have never hear about basil bringing on contractions.
Honestly, I would still eat it. I think if it really could bring on conttractions, it would have to be in a very large quantity... A lot more than you would eat in a regular serve. Just like the pineapple theory, apparently it takes something like atleast 8 whole pineapples to actually have any effect.

The pineapple theory is always being thrown around, but as I said you have to eat copious amounts.

OP if you listen to everything that you can't eat during pregnancy, you will starve to death. Just stick to the main, logical, ones to avoid.

Basil is actually great to eat during pregnancy, see here: http://www.fitpregnancy.com/nutritio...r-foods?page=3

And this link http://babyfit.sparkpeople.com/articles.asp?id=209 explains that some herbs/plants aren't safe during pregnancy for medicinal purposes, but to eat them is perfectly fine.

If anything, eat more basil during pregnancy

    Default Pesto.....

If basil brought on contractions, women would devour the stuff as soon as they hit term. I have never, ever heard of anyone going in to labour this way and I ate heaps of pesto in pregnancy and had bub at 41 weeks
