Default The deal with 40th birthday invitations?

So, I'm trying to decide on what to do about invitations for DF's 40th coming up.

Do you mail invitations? Email? Facebook?

DF wants an informal event but I'm still not sure what the proper thing to do is?

I think mailing an invitation makes people more accountable to responding, as emailing or Facebook can easily be forgotten but a piece of card / paper on the fridge is a constant reminder.

I would always post invitations, unless it was something very last minute/ casual.

I'm not a fan of Facebook invitations for 2 main reasons..

    1) I always open them up and then forget about them.

    2) I don't like RSVP-ing on Facebook, as it feels a bit like 'come burgle me'. ("Yes, I will be away from my house on the night of Februrary 20th! Come burgle me any time from 7pm onwards...")

Personally, I'd like to keep it formal and polished and something swanky for the 40th birthday invitations for sure!
    Something like this?
