    Default Road Trip

    Road trip Brisbane to Perth with a 4 year old. No time limit with plenty of sight seeing stops.
    Am I insane to do this?
    Anybody have any tips.

    Tip wise: have plenty of snacks and drinks. Entertainment like dvd player, a ds or ipod to play, colouring in, books, a camera for your little on to take their own photos.
    I've never done a trip as big as the one you are planning though.

    The last interstate trip i did my gearbox died ( my car was 3 years old). We were broken down in the middle of nowhere waiting for NRMA so i was glad to have snacks and entertainment for the kids.

    Depends on what you mean by no time limit. I think at best you're looking at a 5 - 7 day trip doing long days, so with more stops and shorter days you might be looking at 10 days! Twice! Would I do it? No.

    My Aunt & Uncle lived 3 hours north of Perth and drove across the Nullabor to Melbourne with their 3 kids (I think their youngest was around 3 at the time) and they said never again.

    Yes you are absolutely insane to do this. But what is a world without a little crazy.

    As a pp said, lots of snacks, breaks, and entertainment. A cheap digital camera with a big memory card for your little one will help ease the pain. Get a map of Australia and get your LO in on the fun by crossing off each location as you pass, with a little help of course. Look out for all the "big" things. Each state usually has a few. Eg big guitar, etc

    Really looking forward to the crazy. Thanks for all the responses. When I said we have no time limit, I meant it. We are looking at weeks not days. Very short hops and our plan is to do that once in a liftime East to West exploration. We want to see everything we can.
    My main concern is that DD will feel completely displaced (unavoidable), so I want to make sure she is amused as much as possible. Love the camera idea, and the Aussie Map.
    I am not too concerned about Bris to Adelaide, but the Nullabor worries me.

    We just did Sydney to Brisbane with our 9 month old. I don't have any tips for the actual travel time, but did learn how much DS relied on blackout curtains.

    With no daylight savings, a very bright bedroom shared with DS, and four new teeth coming through, it made for a very tiring holiday, especially with all four driving days being very wet.

    So my advice is to pick your accommodation carefully!
