I don't agree with abortion at that sort of gestation anyway and I think if a baby is harmed say in an accident, the baby's life should be considered in the charges. I can draw a line in the sand when it comes to bodily autonomy. When a baby can sustain life outside the womb I think it should have it's own unique rights.
Sorry genuine question - how can you end a baby's life at 38 weeks' gestation? I've never heard of an abortion that late.

I was about to ask the same thing... at that gestation you would be induced... I don't know how you would end a babies life? I do understand if your inducing a baby who is not compatible with life (certain conditions etc) that they may not survive but I don't think you can terminate a pregnancy that late?

Well like if you take drugs and your baby dies in the womb. If you have a car accident and your baby dies.
Abortion is also legal in Victoria after 24 weeks. But you need 2 doctors to agree.

Sorry I didn't mean end a babies life just about abortion. I meant if you cause that baby to die by negligable actions you can't be charged for it.

Ok. I would still be amazed if an abortion had ever occurred that late, but am happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Purposefully overdosing on drugs or other harmful substances, arranging for someone to beat you repeatedly to terminate a perfectly healthy baby that would otherwise be viable...sadly, it does happen

Unfortunately, unborn babies have no rights whatsoever until they take their first breath...even if they are deemed as being at a 'viable' stage and would go on to live a long and healthy life otherwise

I'm not saying I agree - I initially had a reply based on abortion as well but given there are legal parameters around the timing of abortion I wasn't sure what the answer was.
I am uncertain of the laws, but it does sound as though they go by a State by State basis anyway. I am finding this convo too upsetting to do any research.
