Default Help and Advice - 7yr old needs circumcision medical reasons PHIMOSIS - I am sared

Hi, My son who is now 7, has been suffering from phimosis (fused tight foreskin) for appox 2yrs. It has gotten worse and now his foreskin blows up when he urinates and it stings afterwards. I took him back to the doctor and we have a referrel but I have to wait 5 weeks for a specialist consultation. I think that is too long to wait? The end of his penis's opening is as small as a pinhead now.
I am actually anti-circumcision for anything other than medical reasons and didn't imagine I would be facing this now.
I am on the Sunshine Coast so any advice on Dr's, cost etc would help.
I don't see that I have any other choice now but to get him circumcised.
What do others think and anyone been through similar?
I will also mention he had a normal foreskin prior to this and was able to retract it.

No advice, just lots of virtual hugs. We are monitoring ds1 for similar reasons.

I hope all goes well for your little man.

I would get more opinions if it were me, have you gotten a second opinion? http://www.cirp.org/library/normal/

Balloning can be normal and your son at 7 shouldnt be retractable anyway but he was so was that forced

I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue with a 1yr old as his foreskin would not be ready for retraction at that age.

You might find it quicker if you went down to Brisbane. If he needs it done it should just be a day only procedure. Are you trying to go public or private?

Hi this has been an ongoing problem and diagnosis. Yes my son could naturally retract previously (not forced). The past two years though he hasn't and it has been okay to leave alone as he could urinate ok. It is now the opening has further closed it is a problem. We have used creams before and I have just filled another script so this will be the last shot at creams applied 3 x per day. I guess the specialist at the hospital is the 2nd opinion as to whether circumcision is required, unfortunately it is looking that way.
Hoping cream we are prescribed gives some hope.

I agree it would be quicker to get in somewhere in brisbane. from what i know of, lots of people go to the Russell medical Centre at MacGregor (near Garden city shopping centre.) They have their own website. Just google Russell Medical Centre and they will show you lots of information regarding the procedure. I had my two boys there and so have many friends with their kids and we have all been very happy with it. I don't think they have long waiting periods at all.

But definately get a second opinion just in case for peace of mind in case there is another alternative. all the best!

    A couple of questions:
    1) What "cream" are you using?

    2) You say you have used a cream before. When and why?

    And a few observations:
    1) If he is experiencing "stinging" after urination, then this points to balanoposthitis (either bacterial or fungal), which may be the underlying cause of the problem, particularly if the foreskin is still soft and pliable.

    2) Seeing a specialist is imperative, since you need to know what the problem is before any action can be taken.

    3) Should a circumcision be required (which is by no means a given), it will need to be done in a hospital under GA. Using a GP like Russell for a 7yo is out of the question, particularly for treatment of a pathology.
