It could be zombies, it could be aliens, it could be North Korea. Doesn't matter.
Oh absolutely! I love apocalypse movies / books!

Did you read or watch The Road? It's the only movie I've ever considered turning off after half an hour... So difficult to watch! But so good... It still haunts me years later.

oh The Road is tough to watch - that 'house' scene if you know what I'm talking about. terrifying but I could see how it would come to that :/

I kind of wish I hadn't watched it. There are some thoughts I just don't need rattling around in my head.

I had always meant to read the book but there's no way... Reading evokes even stronger images for me than watching does.

Completely understand, and what you've said cements further my reluctance to read it. I understand it to be a very powerful book though.

I'm going to chime in here with a bit of a theory that I'd like to see everyone debate; I do not watch this show, I can't do suspense, but I have listened to many a conversation between my mum and brother who watch it and I want to know what people think of this idea:

There is a virus (duh). You used to have to be bitten, now you just have to die as everyone is infected. Correct?
Rick spent a very short amount of time in the hospital after he was gut shot. He was stuck with IVs and pumped full of god knows which antibiotics and drugs to keep him alive. Yes?
Lori moved on with another man and helped establish a survivor camp, all while Rick was in hospital (supposedly just for a short time).
Rick wakes up, and well, you know the rest.
Here's the thing: Rick must have been in hospital for MONTHS. Being cared for, having his IVs changed, being cleaned, tube-fed, etc. being heavily medicated by SOMEONE (might or might not be important who). During this time, Lori finds love with a mate, etc. sets up camp, has a group... This takes time, and I don't believe it happened in a matter of days.

So what I think is that Rick is the key to the CURE. Whatever he was being given in hospital, combined in some way to make him walker-virus resistant. His blood is resistant. That explains why, when Carl maybe should have died and become a walker, he was given a transfusion of Rick's blood and lived and the virus didnt take hold.
So maybe watchers of TWD, do you think that maybe, Rick is the cure? My brother thinks that maybe he even died in the hospital (and should have woken up walker) but that the drug cocktail somehow kept him human(?) (preserved?)

    Fascinated to hear other theories

Rick was in the hospital for more than a few days. He was shot badly but when he had woken up he was practically healed

Waking up in an empty hospital after weeks in a coma, County Sheriff Rick Grimes..."

^that was taken from the website.

The heart needs to stop to turn, carl's did not

I kinda think if there was a cure the scientist from the first season would have found it or the goveners science guy
