I asked one of the scientists at my clinic about the new Genea technology today. Her answer was a bit unexpected and doesnt make complete sense to me. She said that it isn't really anything new and that all the clinics are using the technology as common practice. She said there is only 3 types of 'media' (that's what they call the solution) in the world that all the clinics use. She said they are constantly tweaking it and making it better and that this 'news' item was just really great PR by Genea. Not really sure what to make of that since I know quite a few girls on the forums have talked about being a part of the trial. Maybe someone else can ask their non Genea clinic and see what they say.
Genea have always used their own media where as other clinics use the same media available to all clinics. We agreed to take part in the trial for the new Genea media and spoke to one of the scientists involved. Half our embryo's were placed in Genea's old media and half in the new. Also it had to be patent, legally it has to be true otherwise it wouldn't get approved.

Tessagirl I am so sorry this one hasn't worked. I know how devastated you must be. Big hugs to help get through the week. So not fair.

    Deb01 - Welcome to you!

Rachael - thanks for the Genea info. We're you in the trial when you conceived the twins?

My FS said pretty much the same thing. She said when she sees it published in scientific journals she will take notice.

Yes we were. It was also the first time we tried PICSI. I believe the breakthrough is true, we had to sign various Australian Government documentation because the new media was used but EPU was before the new media's launch date (patent approved date).

OMG I am so cranky today! I was about to drive to my hubby's work to get him to take the lid off the hot pickle onions because he screws it on too tight. I rang him up and asked him if he was scared they will get out and run away or something! The TWW is getting to me, now to enjoy some cheese and chilli pickle onions (after I ran the jar lid under hot water and opened it myself)

On a good note my IVF centre now bulk bill for concession and onco patients. They are a good mob at Flinders reproductive medicine, especially with a few of my friends, bridesmaid included, having early hysterectomy's due to cancer. Now their IVF is free. Including 5 years free storage. God bless you Flinders

Rachael have you stayed with Genea? I am definitely going to try with them because at least they appear willing to think outside the square and try new things. My FS won't try anything and just says I have 'old eggs' so we just have to keep trying the same protocol and maybe I'll get lucky! Like everyone I like to think IVF has a bit more to offer than just luck and I can't afford (financially and emotionally) to continue just doing the same thing. I feel like FS doesn't think it will work which might be why I feel defeated early in the TWW.

Torie - so funny. I'm with you hun! There's no need for the lid to be put on that tight, or for towels that I washed on Sunday to be in the wash basket this morning! Hope your intolerance (although completely justified) is a good sign

AFM - AF due Friday and feeling major AF cramps

Fingersx - I'm with MIVF. I'll have to travel to Sydney for about 7 days for EPU and ET but DH and I think that could be fun. He's never been there. They said everything else would be done in Melb and appointments with FS on Skype. If we're lucky enough to get frosties again the trip to Sydney would be a lot shorter.

    Who you with in Melb?
