    Default Booking into ob?

I had my gp visit today to confirm my pregnancy. I'm 5 weeks today. When I asked him about booking into an ob, he said not until week 14. To me this seems so far away and I'm scared the ob I want will book up. When have you guys booked into your obs and did you need a referral or just called up and booked?

Sooner than 14 weeks. I had an appt booked to see him at about 9 weeks. If you aren't seeing an ob until 14 weeks, your gp will need to arrange nt scan for you, if you intend to have it.

i think it depends on Public or private.

If your going private then that is very strange and you usually see them from about week 6ish.

Public is a little different (and varies depending on your state) but most public dont see you until at least 12-16 weeks, as majority of them depend on shared care with your gp until this point.

    Book now!

I was a bit clueless and waited until 9 weeks to try and book an Ob - I rang five of them and they were all booked up.

Finally got into the 6th one on my list which was lucky, because he was the only possible one left in my area!

I booked the day after my positive blood test, so about 4 weeks, and my ob was already almost booked!

    Do it now for sure!

I was going to say this.

Im surprised people book so early but maybe thats all private?
I went to my GP for the positive test (2weeks) then he referred me for the initial bloods. Saw him for those results, then he gave me referral for ultrasound at 6weeks...saw him for results and he then he gave me referral for NT scan (13 weeks) and told me to call whatever OB I wanted.
I called OB and saw midwife for first 2 appointments after my NT scan and am now fully in their care....

Im 26 weeks and I the first time I will see my actual OB is next week.
