I don't envy anyone who lives like that and I wouldn't want to make them homeless instead or increase crime rates by taking it all away.
Well these people increased crime in our neighbourhood (drug labs found in their back yards, cops slways at their houses) and seemed fine to me when they were outside their house drinking beer during the day.

I'm pointing out that every level of income are not perfect. Everyone's having a go at the higher income earners when there are some low income earners or non income earners that make a mockery of the system. And there are genuine cases if this, just need to watch shows like today tonight.

I agree, there are some deadsh*ts that simply don't want to work, and spend their money on booze and drugs while their kids roam around the streets at 9pm. I've found they are the minority though.

Many of my comments have been directly related to comments that have been made in this thread. So I'm not just stirring the pot making up judgemental stuff. I'm simply addressing some points, from several members that confuse me. I don't hate wealthy people - really lol there are some fab ones who give to charity, work hard, great people and always remember they are so lucky. It's the 'my tax dollars' ones that annoy me, especially when they believe tax dollars should only go to them

I agree delirium. There are bludgers and trouble-makers from all walks of life, from all income levels (yes, shock horror it's true).

I pay tax and I don't believe it covers my expenses, even working full-time. Not many of us would if we think about our education, healthcare, and everything else. I do believe big business would be propping us up.

Taking away housing from a drug addict or alcoholic is not going to save the country any money and they'll increase crime rates. Even more than what you see now. Drug dealers with drug labs are a different breed, they should be in jail, not in your neighbourhood.

To be fair, I think it can be very disheartening to see so much of your income disappear each year in tax. Particularly for, for example, a small business owner who actually drums up business, carries it out, then wonders why they bothered when the return is comparatively low.

High income earners are vilified on forums like this, but let's not forget that they are often responsible for employing many, many other Australians. And if the financial incentive isn't there for them to do it, if so much disappears in tax that it's just not worth their while, then we all miss out.

We need Australians to want to take risks, to want to try new things and create new opportunities. And taxing the bejesus out of them and then disqualifying them from the resultant spoils doesn't inspire the entrepreneur in most people

I don't think anyone is vilifying them. People are just responding to statements they are making, which do come across as harsh, minimising the complexities of poverty and a little bit selfish. As I have said, my DH's tax dollars pay for lots of things we don't utilise and that wealthy people do. It doesn't bother me.

I do fully understand paying 40% tax would be hard. But to pay that you are getting a big income, and even when tax is gone someone is on many times what that of someone on welfare is on. So there is an incentive. There is also a number of middle to high income payments for various things that can be claimed to buy a house, to get PPL etc. There is no doubt in capitalist Australia that there are huge benefits to working over getting the dole.

But then I'm firmly socialist lol always have been. I think people are too worried about wealth, the huge house and keeping up with the Jones's.

This forum is made up primarily of a lower income demographic so these threads always go the same way and the same people say the same thing (including me).
