Default Abbott to axe school bonus if he gets in

I think it's a calculated leak to gauge reaction. He'll announce that he's abolishing it then depending on opinion & the strength of that opinion he'll replace it with something almost identical but under a different name.

I don't see the big deal. IMO if you choose to have children you should foot the bill. And that includes school supplies. It's not like the school year beginning in Jan is a surprise. IMO it's about budgeting and preparing for the school costs that come up each year.

I always find it interesting that those that support cuts to low income earners, are more than happy to take rebates/bonuses/etc for PHI rebates, first home owners and the like, things that are wants. yet begrudge the essentials for families who are on 1/10 of what they earn. Since we are talking about saving the country money, maybe we should just completely phase out the PHI rebate all together?

Typical Libs, calling it a cash splash. It helps with the cost of sending your kids to school, apparently it's not important enough.
I'm sure there will be a lot of cuts and if you struggle already, be prepared to struggle even more. That's what voting liberal means.

Come on Delirium think of others and give Abbot a break.

People like Gina Rinehart are doing it tough too, with the school bonus cut and tax decrease she might just be able to afford her 29th Ferarri.

Exactly ironically it's people like her that will get the bulk of the money he will take from struggling families.

Again, this will not go back into commonwealth savings. He has said he will put it back into tax cuts, the wealthy being the biggest winners.

So would you agree that stuff like buying a house, being on leave from having a baby and wanting PHI are no surprises either? therefore they should all be abolished too. Especially considering the wealthy usually get those payments and have even more propensity to save and pay themselves rather than expecting the tax payer to fund a private hospital stay or a nice new house??

Huh? Gina rhineharts taxes probably pay all of your school bonuses!

If it weren't for tall poppies like her, the gov wouldn't have any money to give back to all of you.

No. But I presume her argument is that at some point before or soon after you had kids that you should have considered the cost of putting them through school. Unfortunately this also involves considering unpleasantries such as unexpected job losses/wage fluctuations and saving/planning accordingly.

Im not saying I agree with the potential cuts, just that I see her point of view.

Why should wealthy people pay for your children's school supplies?
