    Default Re: Centrelink debt

Yeah i have a small debt. Its their fault, i spent a long time on the phone in 2011 to avoid a debt, to report my income correctly, ensure i gave them the correct information, but either human or computer error and a small error added up to me being overpaid.

Im not overly impressed but Ive also gone onto a payment plan to sort it out.

Though not nearly as much as yours, that must be so frustrating.

A family member of mine fought them for years over a debt as she was put on payments whilst studying (this was done by the social worker) then years later they contacted her saying she didnt study full time so was overpaid and owes thousands. Then the social worker had moved up within centrelink and was 'uncontactable'.
After many hearings etc it turns out the social worker filled out her paperwork with the wrong course and signed her name. Even with this she still had to pay it back.
    Good luck

I had a debt years ago when I was on youth allowance. Even though it seemed to be their fault they don't really care!

It all happened because some one on there end told me before i went back to work after having my daughter i could declare on of two ways, every 14 days or there data match at the end of financial year, and because i always owed tax i assumed that was my out of pocket from my pps payments. In January 2012 i phoned and asked if i was doing in correctly and the lady informed me i wasnt and would or wouldnt recive and overpayment letter! recived this 11 months later and had to send it my pay summarys and from there end worked this out plus added on there 10% recovery charge, so now im paying back $100 a f/n and hoping they now will leave me alone as ive been ever so compliant and done all they have asked. I dont no how many times ive stressed to them how ridiculously upset and stressed i am! only for them to say not everyone is out to fraud the system and i said yes well thats definatley not me! No wonder people hate dealing with them!
