I have no experience with this, but had some ideas...
Are you feeding on a schedule, or regularly? I got my period back after a week of feeding at odd times and missing a few nights when DS slept through.
Would you consider partly weaning and pumping for his feeds instead?
I don't know if it's very common for AF to come back and then dissapeared again, I'm not sure if it's really due to breastfeeding... but again, I don't have any experience with this.
Did you increase feeds before your periods stopped again? I think stopping night feeds would be the place to start - apparently these feeds increase prolactin levels more than day time feeds.
I have returned to work recently...in preparation for this I started complementary feeding.
My 6 month old now has 2 formula bottles a day...
Since dropping only 2 breastfeeds per day I have had two periods, 35 days apart.
I slowly increased formula up to two bottles...not all at once as I did not want to upset his tummy too much, plus I started giving a probiotic...
It is seems to be working quite well.
