    Default Singapore or Malaysia?

I think Singapore would be a nice change after Thailand.

You can go shopping if you wish, go to Chinatown, little India, Singapore zoo, Arab street, sentosa island for some fun with the kids.

We go there for seven days quite often and never run out of things to do. The subway is also easy and safe to get around. Food is cheap and a lovely mix of Chinese, Malay and Indian.

I'm assuming you are doing a resort stay in Thailand? In which case I wouldn't waste time packing and going to bintan for a few days. 5 days will go so quickly!
